Bio-diesel
BIO-DIESEL
Bio-diesel can be produced by a simple chemical reaction in which vegetable oils such as rapeseed can be reacted with methanol and a sodium hydroxide catalyst to produce bio-diesel and glycerol as a by-product.
Wellman have licensed reactor technology developed at Cambridge University to enable the efficient production of bio-diesel. A plant has been developed which can process 250 litres per hour of rapeseed oil to produce 250 litres per hour of bio-diesel and 30 litres per hour of glycerol. The plant has the footprint of a Euro-container, and greater throughputs can be obtained by using a number of modules.
